[Interview with Barbara Cooper and Charlie Mingus' Ysobel's table dance] [sound recording] / Barbara Cooper ; [interviewed by] Effie Mihopoulos. 2006.

The broadcast consists of an interview with Barbara Cooper in which she discusses her exhibition at the Northeastern Illinois University Fine Art Center Gallery. Ms. Cooper is using the Gallery as her studio space to create a large scale wood sculpture entitled "Current," whichr will be installed in the lobby of the Avalon Branch of the Chicago Public Library. She also discusses her inspiration for this project, as well as for her other sculptures resembling shapes found in nature. The interview is followed by Charlie Mingus' "Ysobel's table dance."

Charles Mingus, African-American jazz bassist, was born April 22, 1922, in Nogales, Arizona. He began to study the cello in 1934, switching to the bass in 1937. In 1939 he began studying composition with Lloyd Reese and composed What love and Half mast inhibitions. He began his professional career in 1940, playing bass with Lee Young, and he toured with Louis Armstromg's big band the following year.
